Quetiapine

What is it?

Quetiapine (brand name Seroquel) is an antipsychotic that treats schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and depression. It can also be prescribed for general anxiety disorder, major depression, and mood disorders. Quetiapine affects the serotonin and dopamine levels in your brain.

Other names: Quell, Suzie-Q, Q-ball, or baby heroin

Where do people get it? A prescription from a doctor or purchasing it illicitly.

How is it dangerous? People abuse this drug for its euphoric effect, although many studies have shown that patients who overdose on quetiapine are at risk for coma, hypotension, respiratory depression, seizure, and death. Increasingly, the drug is found in people who overdose. It is often used in an IV with other illegal substances such as cocaine and marijuana to enhance their effects.
