Via Channel 9 on Memorial Day :

Memorial Day can be confusing for many. It is a holiday that commemorates people that lost their life in service of our country. Steve Carleton, our Chief Clinical Officer, offers some insight veterans have shared about how best to celebrate and honor our fallen heroes. In short, people should get together and celebrate but make sure to take time publicly our privately to honor and show gratitude for the sacrifice so many have made.

It is also important to reach out to those who have experienced the loss of a loved one in service. Be inclusive of those who might be visiting a cemetery on Memorial Day and let them decide whether they do or do not engage. For those that have experienced tragedy or trauma related to war, talking about it can be a difficult task. As civilians, your job is to show up, be grateful, and take a moment to remember why you are celebrating.
