Ozempic and Wegovy, brand name of semaglutide, are medications that treat Diabetes and more recently aid in weight loss.

In short, the medicine has been found to suppress cravings for food by making the person feel fuller or satiated.

Many patients taking semaglutides started reporting that it was also curbing their appetite for alcohol, and this has led to more research.

In alcohol dependent rodents a study found that semaglutide reduced use. This is an exciting outcome, and more research is being conducted. If this medication consistently reduces alcohol consumption in humans without dangerous side effects it will be an excellent option for people wanting to slow down or quit using alcohol, and potentially other substances.
