Meet the Gallus team of addiction recovery experts
At Gallus Detox Centers, you’ll find a team addiction recovery experts comprising of: board-certified physicians, ICU-level registered nurses, and medical care technicians, all with backgrounds in critical care and emergency medicine. They have over 75 years of combined work experience helping patients suffering from alcohol and substance use disorders.
The goal of each Gallus team member is to compassionately and professionally guide you through every phase of your detox treatment.
Patrick J. Gallus, DO
Chief Medical Officer
Dr. Gallus is a board-certified emergency medicine physician. He obtained his B.S. in Health and Physical Education from the University of Montana, and his D.O. from the College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific. He completed his emergency medicine residency at Texas A&M University, Scott & White Memorial Hospital. As the Chief of Staff at Yavapai Regional Medical Center in Prescott Arizona, he developed two emergency departments with a staff of 18 board-certified physicians that saw 72,000 patients a year. Dr. Gallus has over 15 years of experience treating drug- and alcohol-related issues.
Gina Carroll, RN
Director of Nursing
Gina’s compassion and understanding is reflected by everyone on the Gallus Detox staff and passed on to each and every patient. She has worked in and around the medical field since 1994. Gina has many nursing certifications including Advanced Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Trauma Nurse Core Curriculum (TNCC) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS). Prior to joining the Gallus Detox team, she was the administrator and human resources director at a large private practice in the Prescott, Arizona, area. In addition to her career, Gina enjoys her family, hiking, biking, and traveling.
Lynn Grieger RDN, CDE, CPT, CHWC
Lynn has been a registered dietitian/nutritionist for 32 years and has advanced certification as a certified diabetes educator, certified personal trainer, and certified health and wellness coach. She has consulted in drug and alcohol addiction treatment centers for the past 6 years, providing practical nutrition information for recovery and helping clients include healthy food choices into their lifestyle. She enjoys being outside as much as possible, hiking, running, and enjoying the Arizona sunshine.
Steve Carleton LCSW, CACIII
Steve worked in the Department of Veterans Affairs for 10 years. He is a PTSD and substance use disorder expert with over 14 years of experience in and around addiction. Steve is also an Adjunct Professor at the University of Denver’s Graduate School of Social work. He teaches cognitive behavioral therapies, Motivational Interviewing, assessment skills using DSM-5, amongst others.
Michelle Dunaway-Watts, RN
Director of Nursing, Scottsdale
Michelle is the Director of Nursing at our Scottsdale location. Michelle believes in the Gallus mission and loves working as a team for the patient’s desired outcome during treatment. Michelle has 15 years nursing experience in both pediatric and adult emergency medicine and trauma. Michelle’s experience includes being a charge nurse at some of the busiest emergency departments in Phoenix for 11 years as well as managing a rural access emergency department in Oregon for 2 years. Michelle’s nursing certifications include TNCC, PALS, ACLS, ENPC, tele certified and ultrasound guided IV placement. Michelle is married to a retired firefighter paramedic, has two great kids, and 3 extra-large dogs! Our family (including the dogs) enjoy the outdoors as much as possible year-round in beautiful Arizona!
Monica Thomas LMSW, MPA
Monica L. Thomas began her career in New York City in 1995 as a entry level BHP in a therapeutic residential treatment setting. In 1996, she pursued a certification in alcohol and substance abuse counseling while attending undergraduate school. In 1999, Monica enrolled in Hunter College School of Social Work where she competed her degree and became a NYS licensed social worker in 2003 and licensed in Arizona Maricopa County in 2019. Monica also earned a second Masters’ Degree in Public Administration: Nonprofit/ Human Resource Management at Baruch College in 2015. Monica’s background and experience in the behavioral health field extends over 25 years. In her many roles she provided leadership, supervision and support across various organizations, modalities of care and persons served. She is an experienced trainer, coach and professional development advisor.
Laura Herrmann, MA
Chief Outreach and Marketing Officer
Laura is the Chief Outreach and Marketing Officer at Gallus Medical Detox, she has over 20 years of experience in the healthcare marketing field in digital, social, product marketing, strategy and sales leadership.
Her passion for those struggling and recovering from substance use disorder and mental health as well as advocacy for patient empowerment has driven her career and continues to be the motivation to work within the best treatment options to help those struggling. With a Master’s Degree from Tufts School of Medicine and Emerson College in Health Communication, Laura has continued to find excitement and challenge in her chosen field.
