What Is Valium?
Valium, also known as Diazepam, has been primarily used to relieve moderate to severe pain. In addition, it can be used to manage and treat short-term anxiety disorders, seizures and skeletal muscle spasms. When properly supervised by a physician, Valium has the power to control agitation caused by alcohol withdrawal. Individuals prone to addiction are in need of careful monitoring when receiving the drug.
The Dangers and Symptoms of Valium Abuse
Valium addiction is a serious and potentially life-threatening problem. Evidence suggests that Valium abusers may also be addicted to other drugs and use Valium to enhance the “high” or diminish the adverse effects derived from those other medications. The chemicals in Valium can accumulate among the elderly and individuals suffering from kidney and liver problems and result in additional health problems. Taking the drug during pregnancy is not recommended and may cause severe damage to an unborn baby.
The Dangers and Symptoms of Valium Abuse
Long-term Valium abuse may eventually lead to physiological and psychological dependence and increased drug tolerance. That’s when the user constantly feels the need to increase the dosage to experience the same “high.” The side effects of Valium abuse can be exacerbated by consumption of alcohol and my result in a potentially fatal overdose. Due to the fact that Valium tends to impair mental judgment, driving or operating machinery is NOT recommended for individuals taking the drug. Common symptoms caused by Valium are:
- Clumsiness
- Impaired judgment
- Sleepiness
- Blurred vision
- Abdominal pain
- Convulsions
- Hallucinations
- Memory loss
- Trouble breathing
- Headache and other disturbing symptoms
Valium Withdrawal Symptoms
After long-term use, abrupt discontinuation of the drug should be avoided, as it may lead to severe and excruciating withdrawal symptoms. Valium withdrawal symptoms include:
- Cramps
- Vomiting
- Sweating
- Convulsions
- Tremors
- Abdominal and muscle cramps
