Pennsylvania Alcohol & Drug Detox Facilities
The National Survey of the Substance Abuse Treatment Services reported in 2006 that number of Pennsylvania facilities had decreased from 488 in 2002 to 446 in 2006. Most of those facilities, 317, were were private non-profit and 114 were private for-profit.
At that time, 345 of the detox and rehab centers in Pennsylvania provided a form of outpatient care and 312 facilities provided in-house/inpatient residential care. Opioid treatment programs for opiates, such as prescription pain killers and heroin, were offered by 52 facilities, and 417 physicians and 56 programs had been certified to provide buprenorphine treatment for opiate addiction.
When looking for a supervised medical detox program, there are actually very few centers that specialize in this detox method in Pennsylvania or throughout the country. Although many rehabilitation centers may offer some type of detoxification program, this treatment could be completely holistic, possibly based solely on vitamins, saunas, yoga and meditation. A non-medical program may not be safe for alcoholics or drug addicts with extreme dependency and deteriorating health. Withdrawal symptoms may also be so severe and uncomfortable that a patient can't stick with a tough-it-out program. When a medical detox is needed for safety and comfort, Gallus Detox Centers should be considered.
