Statistics in the National Survey of Substance Abuse Treatment Services (N-SSATS) indicates the number of detox and rehab treatment centers in Montana has remained fairly stable since 2002. There were 57 facilities: 31 private nonprofit, 5 private for-profit, 11 overseen by the Federal Goverment and 4 owned/operated by tribal governments.

Some 52 facilities, about 95% of the detox and rehab centers offered outpatient treatment and 8 facilities offered inpatient care. There were 11 physicians and 7 treatment programs certified to provide treatment for opioid (opiates such as prescription pain killers and heroin) abuse. Additionally, 96 physicians were certified to provide buprenorphine treatment for opiate addiction.

When researching medical detox programs, you'll find there are actually very few specialized detox centers in Montana or elsewhere in the country. Although many rehab facilities offer some type of detoxification program, their treatment program may be completely "natural" or "holistic" and based solely on vitamins, saunas, yoga and meditation. A non-medical program may not be safe for alcoholics or drug addicts with long-term dependency and questionable health. Eastern Montana Substance Abuse and Dependency Services: Substance abuse treatment services are provided in eight of the Montana counties covered by EMCMHC. The services include an intensive outpatient programs, evaluation/assessment/referral, crisis intervention, prevention/education, ACT/DUI and Minors in Possession classes. Services are provided by qualified, state-certified substance abuse counselors.
