A National Survey of the Substance Abuse Treatment Services reported the number of facilities Massachusetts had decreased from 352 in 2002 to 312 in 2006. Of those facilities, 250 were private non-profit and 49 were private for-profit.
At the time of the survey, 207 Massachusetts detox and rehab centers provided some form of outpatient care while 127 facilities provided in-house/inpatient residential care. Opioid treatment programs for opiates, such as prescription pain killers and heroin, were offered by 58 facilities, and 276 physicians and 73 programs had been certified to provide buprenorphine for opiate dependency.
When looking for a supervised medical detox program, there are actually very few centers that specialize in this detox method in Massachusetts or throughout the country. Although many rehabilitation centers may offer some type of detoxification program, this treatment could be completely holistic, possibly based solely on vitamins, saunas, yoga and meditation.
