The National Survey of Substance Abuse Treatment Services of 2006 reported the number of treatment facilities in Maryland had increased from 345 in 2002 to 371 in 2006. This increase was due to an additional 11 new private nonprofit centers and 18 private for-profit facilities.
Of all the Maryland treatment centers in 2006, 313 offered some type of outpatient care while 82 provided in-house/in-patient residential treatment and 51 offered an opioid treatment program. In addition, there were 286 physicians and 97 programs certified to provide buprenorphine treatment for opiate abuse.
