Connecticut Alcohol & Drug Detox Facilities
Based on the last National Survey of Substance Abuse Treatment Services (N-SSATS), the number of Connecticut detox and rehab treatment centers has declined from 247 facilities in 2002 to 209 in 2006. Most of the facilities (86%) were private nonprofit and the balance were private for-profit.
Some 152 of the detox and rehab centers offered some form of outpatient treatment at that time, 66 provided inpatient/residential care, and 41 offered opioid treatment program (opiates such as prescription pain killers and heroin) abuse. Additionally, 171 physicians and 46 treatment programs were certified to provide buprenorphine treatment.
When researching medical detox programs, you'll find there are actually very few specialized detox centers in Connecticut or elsewhere in the country. Although many rehab facilities offer some type of detoxification program, their treatment program may be completely "natural" or "holistic" and based solely on vitamins, saunas, yoga and meditation. A non-medical program may not be safe for alcoholics or drug addicts with long-term dependency and questionable health. Withdrawal symptoms may also become so severe and unpleasant that a patient can't continue with a cold-turkey program. When a medical detox is needed for safety and comfort, consider Gallus Detox Centers.
